Rain
Finally we got rain. It's been dry as a popcorn fart around here, but the last few days we've had rain and the blooms are popping out everywhere in the woods.

Isn't it though? I've had my eye out for morels too but I haven't seen any yet. We met three mushroom hunters at Asylum Lake yesterday who had a nice little bag of them.

 Popcorn farts are supposed to be dry?? What brand do you buy? Is it regular or microwave?

Awesome pictures kzoo, I also like the shot of the turtle, very cool!

Ideally, I believe a popcorn fart should be quite arid, with little odor. It is acceptable for baked bean farts to be moist and somewhat fruity. I got three or four shots of that turtle- I can only post ten pics so the others got cut.

 I spotted him swimming across the pond at the outlet, just his head poking out of the water. He started climbing that stump, and I thought it'd be too steep for him, but he clawed right up, no problem.

 That patch was on the south bank of the east marsh, shaded by an oak grove on a steep hill. I found a few other patches blooming but his was the first one I came across.

 Thanks Pet. I sure feels good to get back out there. We've missed it. We both need the work and Gracie just doesn't get it, why we haven't been going. She tries to make up for lost time in the first five minutes.

 No! I've been taking it easy the last three weeks. Gracie isn't the only one who'll have to re-train. We tried hiking a bit without her but it didn't feel right with her at home.

 MB had to do a turn around trip to a small airport in Canada, just above Detroit, last month. He said it looked like winter still. I guess May showers bring June flowers for you. Pretty. But 85 already? That isn't a gradual spring warming.
There is a difference between a good BJ and a bad BJ.

Spring does come a bit late here- it stays grey and brown til late April and early May here, and it's been so dry. But the late rains have all the green and all the flowers just busting out all at once. the woods and fields are a riot right now, everything trying to clutch at the sun.

We usually get a few hot days even in March, but not this year. Some years it seems like we go from thirty three degrees one day to ninety the next. I'm hoping for a cool summer- southern Michigan summers are notoriously torrid and muggy.
