Comey and the memos

James Comey seemed credible in his testimony. The former FBI director has a good reputation for telling the truth. Unlike Trump. Plus Comey wrote down his notes and made memos right after meetings or calls with Trump. Plus he told his top associates the gist of his interactions.

If Trump recorded their interactions, produce the "tapes".

Trump did not invoke executive privilege. Trump also waived any privilege by discussing the contents of the discussions. Any confidential privilege goes away when you tell the public what was said. Comey is free to tell the truth of what was said in the meeting.

If the memo is not classified Comey had the right to distribute the info to the NY Times through a friend. There is no evidence the memo was classified. Trump has a history of "leaking" info in a similar way to the press. Trump and his supporters are trying to make Comey look bad for "leaking". There is no crime or evil in getting info out to the press that is not classified and which is being discussed in public by Trump.

The US is not a dictatorship where contradicting the President is a crime. Not yet at least.

If Trump was not asking Comey to end the Michael Flynn investigation, why ask Pence and Sessions to leave so Trump could talk only with Comey? What is the secret?

Trump knew a private meeting looked bad. Trump criticized Hilary Clinton for Bill Clinton meeting AG Lynch on the tarmac during the 2016 campaign. The legal term for the bad "optics" is the appearance of impropriety. Avoid that.

Trump is a hypocrite for doing what he criticized Bill Clinton for doing, but worse.

When Trump asks the FBI director to "let it go" that is a direction that is intended to interfere with an ongoing criminal investigation. Helping your friends avoid criminal consequences for their acts is what dictators do. Trump could pardon Flynn, but then he would be publicly showing his favoritism to a buddy.

Trying to stop law enforcement for political purposes is what Richard Nixon did during Watergate, when he tried to call off the FBI pursuit of the burglars. That political interference was a major basis for the effort to impeach that led to Nixon's resignation. Trump appears just as guilty of attempted interference in law enforcement as Nixon, and that is just what is shown so far.

My hunch is Flynn was directed by Trump to go to the Russians about Trump's plan to end the sanctions on Russia when he was President. This info will eventually come out.
Trump's business deals and loans with Russians will eventually come out too. Whether or not that is corrupt enough for "obstruction of justice" or not, Trump will be seen to be colluding with the Russians.

If the control of Congress goes to Democrats in 2018, Trump will be impeached or resign ahead of impeachment. Then we will see if Pence can be better than Trump.

These are times that try our souls. We will survive, but the damage will take a toll. We must stand up for independent judiciary and the rule of law, bolstered by a free press.

Agreed. I was just reading a piece wher even TrumpleThinSkin 's own lawyers refused to meet with him alone but would in pairs because of his slippery relationship with the truth. At least if he lied they both knew it then...

Not sure Trump can tell the difference between his lies and actual truth. He believes whatever he is saying at the moment is true, regardless of actual reality.
