time is not on your side When you are young you want to be older. When you are older, most want to be younger. Under 30 your life seems to stretch out to infinity and beyond. But those ten years between 20 and 30 can escape and leave you unmoored if you do not capitalize on the energy and opportunity of that time. Time is precious, and the one real scarce commodity. You don't have to do everything the smart way if you do a few smart things. In my case I got a law degree and learned how to be an effective lawyer in my twenties so I could help my and make enough money to do well. At age 30 I started to save money in retirement accounts and invested in stocks and mutual funds. These accounts grew, with setbacks, but now make a comfy retirement possible if I go that route. Compound interest, without any taxes and minor management fees leads to a big pile of assets. Having your own business allows deductions and breaks to generate income. America is the land of opportunity, if you can find a niche. Work is a good thing, in reasonable doses. Too much stress is a killer, but a manageable job is worthwhile and fun... I will probably keep working until I die or become too disabled to function... |

Red, If you like doing your work as an attorney, then right on! But if you don't, and could do anything that you liked... I think doing my attorney thing is the best use of my talents. I could teach, do sales of various sorts and write, but those same skills are used being a lawyer, and better paid generally.
