Age preferences do NOT mean close-minded First, let's define close-minded close-minded, Intolerant of the beliefs and opinions of others; stubbornly unreceptive to new ideas. I think we can agree on that being acceptable, yes? {br]On with the point of the post. I've come across two trends that bug me in my short time of blogging. One is an old issue and you'll find it anywhere, so I don't consider it post-worthy. The other issue also has aspects on other sites, but has a different twist, here. On other sites, where people can both blog and see who is viewing their profile, you often see the younger women pop out with the 'EWWW! GROSS OLD MEN ARE LOOKING AT MY PROFILE!' posts. No biggie. HERE, I see the older guys bitching about age being a factor when someone chooses a partner. What bugs me is that they label those women who don't include their age within their preferences as 'close-minded'. That's some passive-aggressive bullshit. Close-minded is having a negative image of someone who has preferences that do not benefit you. It does not mean they think less of people outside of their range. It means they'd rather sleep with someone that is closer to them in age. I don't hear these same people bitching about other preferences people have. I haven't seen one, not one, fucking blog about height preferences. Or body type. Or location or ethnicity. I'm sure the main proponents of 'age is just a number' have listed preferences that others might find disappointing. I hate to tell someone this, but the crap of 'age is just a number' makes a nice slogan, but is utter bull. Why? Age indicates a range of experiences, influences, tastes, and viewpoints. There are vast differences between a 25 year-old and a 50 year-old. Some 25 year-olds might enjoy those differences. Other 25 year-olds might want to spend their naked time with someone they have more in common with. Neither is good or bad. Just different. Their choice might be simply aesthetic. Still not good or bad. Attraction is a seriously complicated business, so much so that it's a very active field of study now. They have NO solid handle on what governs attraction. Telling somebody that they're close-minded or dogmatic for being attracted to someone who is not you or to a type you do not fit in fits nicely under the heading of 'hypocrisy'. The close-minded person is the one who thinks the age preference that does not include them is an immoral concept. Tell me again, who's being close-minded? Smart as a and hung like Einstein. |

I'll probably post on body types at some point. See, your view is fine. What I don't like is the idea that everyone should share that view, or they're close-minded or something else equally negative. Excellent! You've got a good grip on the situation. I have a problem with one thing, however. How many people someone has slept with does not equate to experience. A couple may be virgins when they meet, but, together, can experience a stunning variety of sexual activities. How many people I have, or have not, slept with does not make me experienced. The things I've tried does. I have admitted already that, if a younger woman, even a MUCH younger woman (legal) was interested in sleeping with me, I'd consider it (mild term, yes). It's not an obsession and not something I deserve and no one gets called a name for not wanting to play with my wee wee. That makes no sense. Smart as a horse and hung like Einstein.

Tangents! I love that. I'm still figuring out what the main group is. Or the local group. The local is a much harder element to peg. Do they mostly hang in the chats? Any blogging community runs into the same thing. A small minority blogs. A smaller minority blogs often. An even smaller minority becomes well-known, and an even tinier portion blogs well. I'm looking for the good blogs. Good bloggers, generally, will be in the small, well-known minority of frequent bloggers. That leaves a lot of chaff to wade through. I'm working it out, trying to ignore the weak. Sometimes.. Just sometimes.. I can't help it and let a bit of snark fly. It's hard to be nice all the time, so I don't try. Ignoring stupidity is easier. Smart as a horse and hung like Einstein.

When they use the 'age is just a number' argument, like you describe, it's a straw man, and that straw man is easy to burn. It is no different than when any guy says a girl is frigid because she won't put out.

In the case of the young men, you gave a perfect description of is termed the 'guy' syndrome. Nice is in quote for a reason, to point out the sarcasm of the title. They get nasty because they believe that being nice earns them something beyond politeness and friendship.They paid you attention, therefore, you should fuck them. More passive-aggressive BS. These guys will probably be bitching about young girls not wanting to fuck them sometime in the future. Smart as a horse and hung like Einstein.

Brilliant post. I have gotten my share of men with grey beards old enough to be my daddy telling me age is just a number and I better open up my mind (for some reason I had a real surge around Xmas...and most of them had pics of themselves as Santa...ew). As if. Can I help it that the idea of sleeping with a man the same age as my father makes me uncomfortable? I certainly have FRIENDS that age, but I won't consider a fifty-year-old lover until I am at least 40. Anyway, thanks for your perspective on the whole thing...it is way more mature and OPEN-MINDED than men that far exceed you in age.  Smart as a horse and hung like Einstein.

I have gotten my share of men with grey beards old enough to be my daddy telling me age is just a number and I better open up my mind (for some reason I had a real surge around Xmas...and most of them had pics of themselves as Santa...ew). As if. Can I help it that the idea of sleeping with a man the same age as my father makes me uncomfortable? I certainly have FRIENDS that age, but I won't consider a fifty-year-old lover until I am at least 40. Anyway, thanks for your perspective on the whole thing...it is way more mature and OPEN-MINDED than men that far exceed you in age.

Well, I'm not closed minded, at least I don't think so or of it being that way. Cuz I do have my age preferences set, mainly cuz that is how I feel inside, I'm 44 and don't want someone who is like 25 n up some, cuz I have a son who is 26yrs. old, it just creep me out to date a young one for that reason. I don't go to high up past my age either, for it being too much of an age gap for me, I have an exhubby who is 8yrs older than me, sometimes, I feel that is too much of a gap, we ended in a divorce. So am I closed minded?!  I have seen way too many men and women who want a man or woman with the perfect body, hair, beauty and so on. Waaaay too much on here! Oh, I fucking KNOW that people want the 'ideal' man or woman, I just don't see any posts bitching about it. I have something in mind down the road that counts as being related. It does go both ways, but let's face it...most of the whining comes from older guys wanting to fuck younger women and getting nowhere. I won't lie, there are a lot of younger women I'd like to spend time with, but a large percentage of them don't have me in their age preferences. Find and dandy, I move on. We still might converse. We might be friends. But she gets no shit from me for not wanting to fuck me. Smart as a horse and hung like Einstein.
