Fair Use Doctrine In a short amount of time, the emails of support I have received from the blogging community have come pouring in. A blogger who makes a career out of writing for a living makes an excellent argument against copyright infringement or plagerism. It is something called the Fair Use Doctrine What exactly is the Fair Use Doctrine and how can it be applied to published material, you ask? Well, in short, fair use is any copying of copyrighted material done for a limited and “transformative” purpose, such as to comment upon, criticize, or parody a copyrighted work. Such uses can be done without permission from the copyright owner. In other words, fair use is a defense against a claim of copyright infringement. My former blog posting "Unrequited Love" qualifies as a fair use, because the blog in question was not transcribed word for word and it also includes: 1) commentary and criticism. Taking the additional step of citing the source to which the information was gathered can also protect against claims of copyright infringement. With that being said, I am going to unhide my former blog. To the blog police who are criticizing me for my blogs, it would make sense for you to brush up on the law before making accusations. myelin36 |

For what it is worth, the internet is STILL the "wild, wild West" when it comes to regulation. I still think that is what "www" stands for anyway  Cite your sources accurately and often -- none can ask for more than that.
